c-v-c word board
a consonant - vowel - consonant word building tool
Children who are ready to build words, after gaining familiarity with the phonetic sounds that each letter represents, will enjoy using this puzzle-like board.
Words that follow a CVC structure are words such as “cat” or “bed”. The ability to decode simple words will foster confidence and allow the child to comfortably read many of the words in beginner books and readers.
design considerations
The CVC Board is divided into three sections. To clearly show that there is a beginning middle and end to each word. The sections are cut to fit the Bueno Market Alphabet cards with rounded bottom corners that help children distinguish the direction of the card. A small indent is cut into the wood to make removing the cards from the board easy for small hands. The colour of the sections is chosen to match the Alphabet cards so that children can easily identify the space for the vowel and consonants.
Sustainably designed + made in Toronto, Canada.

how to start:
The CVC board is meant to be used in tandem with the Letter Symbol and Sound cards. Once the child is familiar with most of the letters, we can encourage children to start building words, starting with the letters from one set of cards.
Join the child at a table. We recommend doing writing-related activities at a table to build the habit of good writing posture.
Place the letters from one set of letter cards in front of the child. For example, set 1 includes the letters c - m - a - t.
Identify and point to the consonants. You might say “These letters are called consonants. They are represented by the colour brown”.
Ask the child to point and read all the consonants.
Repeat for the vowels. For example, “These letters are called vowels. They are represented by the colour green”.
Place the CVC board in front of the child. Introduce it as a tool for building words.
Point out the areas that are coloured. You could say “This spot is coloured brown. We can put a consonant here”. Repeat for the vowel.
